Aluflexpack AG: 4∞ Form, an innovative and sustainable blister pack has been developed

Reinach (pta021/19.06.2024/17:45) - Aluflexpack AG (the "Group"), a leading manufacturer of premium circular flexible packaging and barrier solutions, has developed a sustainable packaging innovation, which will be primarily used in the pharmaceutical industry, but could also find its application in a wider context.

4∞ Form is a blister pack made entirely of lacquered aluminium, which means that it is perfect to recycle, has a low CO2 footprint and impressive protective properties. In addition, 4∞ Form complies with the soon-to-be-introduced EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The product is intended primarily for the pharmaceutical industry, where it can replace existing multilayer solutions such as OPA/AL/PVC (coldform) or PVC/PVDC (thermoform) used in packaging of tablets, capsules and similar products. [ 1 ] It is also fully adapted to all the individual needs of customers, from shape to printing.

4∞ Form benefits from the unique features of aluminium - as a material, it can be infinitely recycled without losing its quality and barrier properties. The latter enables a long shelf life for the product and less food waste. Aluminium is lightweight, resistant to both high and low temperatures and provides 100 percent protection against moisture, light, oxygen, and other gases, as well as bacteria and microorganisms.

Aluflexpack's CEO, Johannes Steurer , says: "As a flexible packaging company that has been developing aluminium-based products for over 40 years, we firmly stand behind everything aluminium has to offer, from its barrier to infinitely circular properties. We are in constant contact with our customers and are looking into different ways to use aluminium to assist them in their packaging journey. With new regulations shaping the market, we were encouraged to try something no one has done before: form lacquered aluminium into a new, fully recyclable product for the pharmaceutical industry. Using our strong network of partners, and more importantly the experience and deep industrial knowledge of our R&D department, we have developed a new solution that can pave the way to a more sustainable direction for the pharmaceutical packaging market."
