Montana Aerospace AG: Montana Aerospace wins new contract from Boeing
and begins qualification process for Europe's largest aerospace extrusion press
Reinach (pta014/12.10.2023/09:00) - Montana Aerospace has been awarded a new contract by Boeing to manufacture wing stringers for Boeing 767 airplanes. The extrusion manufacturing qualification process with Boeing will be efficiently conducted at our state-of-the-art facilities in Satu Mare, Romania, and is expected to be completed by mid-2024. Serial production of the stringers will commence after qualification. As a leading supplier to the civil aviation industry, Montana Aerospace has secured another order in the commercial aviation sector, further supporting Boeing. The Montana Aerospace division Universal Alloy Corporation will supply stringers, for the airplane wing. The manufacturing of the 7000 Series aluminum alloy and the extrusion of the stringers will take place at the state-of-the-art Satu Mare facility, which houses Europe's largest diameter extrusion "Heavy Press" dedicated to aerospace components. The components will undergo further processing at the nearby Baia Mare facility to be transformed into ready-to-install components, benefitting from the unique one-stop-shop vertical integration process that Montana Aerospace companies are renowned for. The completion of the qualification process with Boeing underscores Montana Aerospace's commitment to its unique One-Stop-Shop strategy, which enables an exceptionally shortened delivery time. With over 60 years of expertise in extrusion, research, and development, Montana Aerospace has positioned itself as a trusted partner in the aerospace industry. The new large-diameter press in Satu Mare will now enter serial production for Boeing. "We are proud to collaborate with Boeing on this project and further grow our long-standing relationship." said Paul Andreucci, Chief Commercial Officer of Montana Aerospace Aerostructures. "This work package for our new facility in Romania reaffirms the quality of our products and the efficiency of our manufacturing processes. And we are confident that we will meet Boeing's expectations." Today, we have seven extrusion plants globally with over 25 presses, including large-diameter presses for manufacturing aluminum structural components of up to 30 meters in length," added Kai Arndt, Co-CEO of Montana Aerospace. He emphasized, "Two of these specialized presses are located in our US facilities, and another large-diameter press was built and commissioned in just 18 months, being the first of its kind in Europe." The stringers are made from specialized aluminum alloys that offer an optimal combination of lightweight design, excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and flexibility. The use of 7000 Series alloys provides the stringers with exceptional strength and stability.
